Overview
Anytype is a local-first workspace for notes, pages, tasks, bookmarks, and collections. Content is organized as typed objects with relations, sets, and views, while the desktop and mobile applications keep data on the user's devices first. Anytype describes its synchronization as encrypted and peer to peer, with offline use and optional self-hosting or local network operation. The product has an open-source protocol layer, but the official FAQ says its applications are distributed under a source-available license rather than an OSI-approved license. For that reason, Anytype is not counted as open source here even though official application repositories are public. The official organization also publishes an MCP repository, CLI, API-related code, and documentation.
