Sora was OpenAI's hosted system for generating short videos from prompts and references. Sora 2 added synchronized dialogue and sound effects, while the documented workflow included video creation, editing, extension, and reusable characters based on uploaded reference clips. It was intended for creative video work through OpenAI's web and app experiences, with an API announced for developers. OpenAI discontinued the web and app experiences on April 26, 2026, and the Sora API on September 24, 2026. Sora was proprietary and has no official product-source repository.
